I'm keeping a Sketch Pro around at all times. It's marked with my name in black Sharpie just above the logo. It stays in my pocket, and I've been taking it out occasionally to navigate around on my phone.

In a way, it's a relief. Although many samples have been circulating through the office in various states of evaluation, I hadn't felt a personal connection yet.

I'm feelin' it now, though. It's transforming from a design project into, strangely, a design tool. I'm thinking about using it for early-stage sketching on a new project.

Sketch Pro was designed for simplicity and honesty. It looks like what it does, and removes anything not essential to the function. This may sound improbable, but I like the idea of a single-function device. I'll never be able to use it as a pen, calculator, or twitter client. I can count on it. Dedicated components are so mid-century. In some ways, maybe I am as well.

Many of you have watched our demo video of pressure-sensitive drawing on iPad. We are often asked when this capability can be added to iOS apps in the App Store. Until this month, we've been waiting to see if certain changes can be made in Apple's next operating system that would enable pressure-sensitivity.Apple recently allowed developers a sneak peak at the upcoming iOS 5. We've studied the related documentation with the hopes of finding an opportunity to add pressure sensitivity using the method in the video. Regrettably, there were no additions to the official APIs to support this method.Generally, these APIs are very stable, and do not change much between major releases. Therefore, we believe the next available window for updates will be in 2012 with iOS 6.We're interested to hear your views on this. We've been helping businesses and individuals go paperless with digital signature capture for some time now. You can sign an iPhone/trackpad/iPad with our Autograph software. Many of you have used a Pogo Sketch when signing your name at an Apple Store.

We've noticed it's not easy to make great looking signature capture software for iPhone or iPad. For this reason, developers often ask if our Autograph code (which creates beautiful signatures and is security-focused) can be purchased and used in their Apps. For a long time we said no. Developing a flexible library wasn't a good use of our time, and we didn't see a way to make much money.

Wait. Make money? Hmmm... What's better: a world that's filled with great software and less paper, or some random company having a slightly better economic year?

So yeah, we've released the Autograph code as a library for iOS. We hope it goes far to help developers integrate signature capture in a seamless and secure way. The licensing structure is hassle-free, with no renewals. We're charging a nominal price, and we have site-licensing that allows rampant corporate use on the cheap.
