Can I use any tablet or phone with Mountie?

Mountie is designed with iPads and iPhones in mind. However, Mountie is not Apple-exclusive and will happily secure other tablet and phones that have similar dimensions.

How do I install Mountie

Step 1: Select the right rubber grips for your device, and install them onto Mountie. See the chart below for our recommendations.
Step 2: Connect one device to Mountie at a time, pushing the lever arm down to secure it.
Step 3: Once both devices are clamped in, pull down firmly on the attached tablet or phone. It should not move. If it does, change to a new grip, or adjust the grip using the included stick-on inserts.

Which rubber grip should I use for my device?

We’ve preloaded Mountie with the rubber grips for the devices we think you’ll most likely be using: a bare iPhone 6 (grip B) attached to a MacBook Pro (grip D). But you can easily swap out grips for your particular setup. Use the chart below to find the right fit.

What if I have to use the same rubber grip for my laptop and mobile device?

We’ve got you covered. Mountie ships with miniature stick-on inserts to help fill the gaps.

Will Mountie hold iPads before iPad Air?

Nope; those old things are too clunky.

Which laptops does Mountie work with?

Mountie has been heavily tested on Macbooks, and every other laptop we could get our hands on.

What type of apps should I use with Mountie?

Use any app that helps you make it through the day. Our partners in crime include Netflix, NBC Sports, ESPN, HBO GO, Air Display (extend your computer screen using wifi), Duet Display (faster, but uses a cable), and CarBuzz.

How strong is Mountie?

So, so strong. Mountie is built with a clamp we designed from the ground up just for this purpose. Also, it has swappable rubber inserts, so you can find the best grip to hold your favorite mobile device.

Are there any times I should not use Mountie?

We recommend against moving your laptop when a heavy tablet is attached. Mountie is strongest when laptop displays are tilted back at a natural angle. Tilting your display too far toward you may loosen the grip on heavier devices. Use common sense when operating Mountie. Also, please do not close your laptop lid with your tablet or phone still attached. It may seem obvious, but sometimes it’s easy to forget. It's totally fine to leave Mountie attached to your computer while it's sleeping

Is Mountie safe to use with my laptop?

Yes. Mountie holds your devices gently yet securely with its rubber grips. The weight of the device is distributed evenly along the length of Mountie. Laptop hinges are not subjected to any undue stress.

How long can Mountie hold my device?

Somewhere between “longer than you can” and “days at a time.” Do: watch an entire season of Friends. Don’t: leave Mountie up while you go on vacation. Every situation is different, so be sure to test before leaving your device unattended.

Should I use Mountie at work?

Definitely. We’re doing it right now.

Can I close my laptop when Mountie is attached?

While we haven’t tested all laptops, MacBooks will close and sleep without a problem. Of course, be sure to take your phone/tablet off first!

Will Mountie work with my PC/Chromebook/H4X0R machine?

Almost certainly. Mountie works with every laptop we’ve tested.
