Help with Inklet
Inklet
Getting Started with Inklet
  • Download Inklet:
When it's done downloading, drag it to your Applications folder to install.
  • Launch Inklet:
You will see a black droplet on the toolbar in the upper right-hand corner or your screen. Inklet will run in the background while you go about your business elsewhere on your machine.
  • Open a drawing or note-taking program:
Inklet works with a wide variety of popular pograms. The full list is below in the FAQ section.
  • Start Inklet:
When you're ready to start Inklet, click on the droplet icon and select 'Start Inklet,' or use the hotkey (the default hotkey is control+option+i). Draw with your Pogo Sketch on the trackpad. If you don't have a Pogo pen, you can change the drawing tool to 'finger' in the Inklet drawing preferences.
  • Start Drawing:
Moving your Pogo Sketch lightly around the trackpad will allow the cursor to hover without inking. Increase pressure to draw; heavier pressure will result in a thicker stroke.  If you have any trouble with this step, have a look throught the FAQ section below.
  • Adjust Workspace:
Use a two-finger swipe gesture to move your workspace; pinch to resize. Smaller workspaces provide the best accuracy.
  • Pause Inklet:
Hold down the tilde (~) key to restore normal trackpad operation at any time. This is handy for changing tools or colors.
  • Stop Inklet:
When finished, stop Inklet by tapping the top left corner of the trackpad. Normal trackpad operation will be resumed.

Inklet Tips and Questions

I'm drawing, but nothing is showing up!

Make sure you have a drawing program open under Inklet. Compatible programs are listed a few questions down. Also, make sure you have a pen tool selected in your program, and you're not trying to draw with white on a white background. That never works.

How can I draw without a Pogo Sketch?

Yes, if you're using Inklet 1.1 or later, just change the drawing tool to 'finger' in the Inklet drawing preferences. It's not as easy, but it's possible.

Does Inklet come with a Pogo Sketch?

The Pogo Sketch is sold separately, but there is a bundle available (Inklet + Pogo Sketch) for a discounted price.

Does Inklet work with the Magic Trackpad?

Yes. If an internal trackpad is not available, Inklet will automatically detect and use a connected Magic Trackpad. Inklet works best on internal trackpads, as pressure sensitivity is limited on the Magic Trackpad.

What programs is Inklet compatible with?

Here's a quick list of the programs we've tested with. However, we do expect full compatibility with all drawing programs.
  • Pixelmator
  • Acorn
  • Art Rage
  • Circus Ponies NoteBook (setup video)
  • Aperture 3
  • Lightroom
  • Photoshop (all versions)
  • Photoshop Elements
  • SketchBook Pro
  • GIMP
  • Inkscape (enable extended input with caligraphy tool)
  • Formulate Pro
  • Skim
  • Scribbles
  • Corel Painter
  • PDFPen
  • Illustrator
  • CADintosh
  • GraphicConverter
  • Word '08 choose View->Notebook Layout, choose scribble tool

It looks like "Start inking with pressure" isn't working?

Make sure you're running the latest version of Inklet. If so, check that the drawing tool is set correctly in Preferences/Drawing: to 'Pogo Sketch' or to 'finger,' depending on what you're using to draw. Please note that Photoshop CS3 does not recognize Inklet as a tablet and is unable to respond to the pressure information. You will still be able to draw but will not have pressure sensitivity with CS3.

Does Inklet do all that Autograph does, or will I need to purchase both?

If you're looking to sign a document, Autograph is definitely the way to go.   Inklet is really great for drawing or sketching, but it's not designed specifically for signing things like Autograph is.

There is one exception, however.  If you're signing a PDF document, it's pretty easy to open it in Skim (a free PDF editor), and draw right on the document with Inklet.  For example, you could mark up the document with changes, sign it, then save it.

Help!  A yellow sheet keeps appearing, and I can't draw.

Look for the pen icon in your top toolbar.   This is the handwriting recognition program built into Mac OSX.

Click on the pen icon, and deselect "Write Anywhere."   This will stop the operating system from intercepting the inklet events.   Inklet should now act normally and draw into any compatible program.
